Canto’s promoters comprise a group of successful UK and Indian professionals who have operated in the City of London and other major financial centres for many years (with backgrounds that include financial typesetting, investment banking, accountancy, law and private equity).

The name Canto is derived from Sanskrit (a classical language of India, a sacred language of Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, and Jainism, and one of the 23 official languages of India) and more particularly the word “Kãnda” which means “chapter” of a book; which is itself the corollary of “cantus”, Latin for “song”. In modern usage, canto is a principal form of division in a long poem, especially the epic. For us, Canto has as much relevance today to the written word as it did in classical Sanskrit many centuries ago.
